Employment and volunteer applications all require three references, which are checked as part of the interview process.
Employees and volunteers must provide a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check before their start date, from the city where they currently reside.
Most employment opportunities start at 18 years and older. However, there are some positions in child programming, such as summer day camps, where we accept applications from those 16 years and older.
Volunteering at the YMCA starts at 12 years in youth leadership programs. Parental consent is required for all volunteers 17 years and under.
All positions receive an orientation and on-the-job training on their work location(s), position and the Y. YMCAs across Canada have a national child protection policy and standards, which are also included in initial training. Additional training is position dependent.
