Shirley Stollery YMCA Child Care is a welcoming and supportive centre where your child can grow and thrive. Conveniently located in the YMCA Family Resource Centre on the north side of the Boyle Street Plaza, downtown, Edmonton—near the Edmonton Police Service Downtown Division. We offer infant, toddler, and preschool programs for children ages 12 months to 5 years. Our centre is just minutes from MacEwan University, Rogers Place, and the ICE District, making us an ideal choice for families who live or work downtown or in nearby neighbourhoods like Central McDougall, McCauley, Boyle Street and Riverdale.

Programs and Services

Programs are designed for every stage of early childhood:

  • Infant Care (12–18 months): At YMCA infant care, we provide a nurturing environment where your baby can explore safely, with caring educators supporting early development through sensory play and gentle routines.
  • Toddler Care (19 months–3 years): Hands-on activities and guided play help toddlers develop language, social skills, and independence in a warm, supportive setting.
  • Preschool Care (3–5 years): Our play-based curriculum encourages curiosity and school readiness, with creative projects, group activities, and early learning experiences.
  • Active Play: Children enjoy daily access to our gym, playground, and outdoor spaces, which promotes healthy physical activity and social interaction.
  • Enriched Learning: We follow the National YMCA Playing to Learn Curriculum, focusing on each child’s interests and unique learning style to foster confidence and lifelong skills.

YMCA Child Care Fees & FAQs

How are fees calculated and billed?

Children in Early Years (Infant, Toddler, & Preschool Care) and Kindercare (Children who attend YMCA Kindercare during normal school hours) programs will pay a flat monthly fee of $326.25. The YMCA does not have any supplemental fees and includes a healthy morning and afternoon snack at no extra cost.

Out of School Care fees vary month-to-month, as they are calculated based on the number of days we are open in each month.

Fees are billed monthly on the 1st of each month. We also provide the option to split the fee equally on the 1st and 15th of each month.

Do you have information on the Affordability Grant?

The Government of Alberta's Affordability Grant reduces your child care fees for infant care, toddler care, preschool care and Kindercare to a flat monthly rate of $326.25.

Please note that while you may choose not to attend full time, the YMCA does not offer part-time care.

How does provincial child care subsidy work?

All YMCA Out of School Care programs accept Government subsidy to help offset the cost of child care. Subsidy eligibility and rates vary based on family income, your child’s age and the number of hours your child attends each month. If approved, the YMCA applies the full amount of your maximum subsidy at the start to the next billing period. If your child doesn’t meet the minimum attendance requirements (50 hours per month), the government will not issue the maximum subsidy amount after the month ends. If that happens, we will add that difference to the next billing period.

As of April 1, 2025, the subsidy program is no longer available in Early Years programs.

  • Full-time care (5 days per week)

Some locations offer flexible child care options, subject to availability:

  • AM-only care (before school only)
  • PM-only care (after school only)
  • Drop-in care (no fixed schedule) – only available in Out of School Care programs.

Please note:

  • If accepted into drop-in care, parents must request care for each day required. Each request is subject to availability on that day and is not guaranteed more than 2 weeks in advance.
  • Before-school care (AM-only) and after-school care (PM-only) are offered at select locations and are subject to availability. For anyone registered in one of these options, availability is re-evaluated before the start of each school year and is not guaranteed.
  • Registration in AM-Only care does not guarantee full day care or non-school days.
  • YMCA Child Care does not offer part-time care.
